Nepal-India Border Issue: Nepal’s Foreign Minister NP Saud said on Monday (January 29) that the border issue between Nepal and India should be resolved on the basis of political consensus.
Addressing a program organized here on the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day, Saud said that after completing the necessary technical work in the technical systems to solve the border problem, a solution acceptable to both the countries should be found.
Speaking at a program organized by Nepal-India Human Development and Friends Association, the minister said, “We also have a joint technical committee in this regard. This system should be activated after which the leaders of both the countries should find a solution to this problem diplomatically based on facts. We are working in this direction.
‘Need for more production of hydroelectricity’
He said that to solve the economic problems facing the country, we will have to produce more hydroelectricity and increase electricity trade with both India and Bangladesh. Nepal and India had recently signed an agreement under which India agreed to buy 10,000 MW of electricity from Nepal in the next 10 years.

He had said, “Since there is more than 1,800 km long open border between Nepal and India. Therefore, some dispute and debate related to the border between the two neighbors is inevitable. But the joint technical committee of the two countries has resolved most of the disputes. Susta and Kalapani-Lipulekh are the only two border points that need to be resolved.
